The Rumble in the Jungle

2023 Results

our signature thrilling triple Pumpfest competition that combines rope climbing, bouldering, and speed climbing.

Mark your calendars for Saturday, 21st of October 2023, as that is when this incredible event will take place.

Competitors will have a designated time frame of 2 to 2.5 hours, based on their respective categories, to conquer all three disciplines. Stay tuned for the official schedule, as it will be announced closer to the event date.

Every category will crown a Rumble champion, along with individual winners in each discipline.

Let's dive into the rules

Rumble

The final rankings will be determined by multiplying competitors' placements in all three disciplines, resulting in a score. The participant with the lowest score will be awarded the gold medal. This scoring system mirrors the one used at the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020. For example, if a competitor places 2nd in bouldering, 3rd in lead, and 10th in speed climbing, their combined score would be 60 (2x3x10).

Bouldering

Each category will feature six boulders to conquer. The boulders will be set in a traditional style, with one zone and the top. Rankings within each category will be based on the following criteria:

Categories

Highlights from Rumble in the Jungle 2022.

  • Youth TR - born in 2011 or after
  • Youth Lead - born in 2011 or after
  • Novice - redpoint up to grade 19 or send V3
  • Intermediate
    • Male (redpoint up to 24 or send V6)
    • Female (redpoint up to 22 or send V5)
  • Advanced

Youth TR and Novice categories compete on top rope, while Youth Lead, Intermediate, and Advanced categories compete in lead climbing.

Note:

  • Your overall category is determined by your strongest discipline. For instance, if you don't lead climb but can tick a V9 boulder, you will still be placed in the Advanced category. Remember, you must compete in the same category for all disciplines.
  • Any attempt to deceive your categorization will result in disqualification.
  • Redpoint a route means completing a route, either on top rope or on lead, without falling or resting, but not on the first attempt.
  • Send a boulder means you can completed the boulder cleanly, but after prior attempts.

Cost

  • $34.95 an early bird (until Tuesday 10th October)
  • $49.95 the full price (until Tuesday, 17th October)
  1. The most Tops
  2. The most Zones
  3. The least Attempts to the Tops
  4. The least Attempts to the Zones

Lead/Top Rope

In each category, climbers will tackle five routes using the flash style, allowing them only one attempt per route. Competitors will either reach the top or accumulate points based on the highest position they achieve on the climb (high point). The scoring in this discipline will be based on:

  1. The most tops achieved.
  2. The highest score (points) accumulated on routes that were not topped.

Belaying & climbing requirements

ALL top rope climbers and belayers must have completed Urban Jungle's Top Rope Induction. Likewise, all lead climbers and belayers must possess an Urban Jungle Lead Pass. You must obtain these certifications before the event by visiting our facility.

Speed

Each climber will have four attempts, two on each line, on the speed wall. Competitors will be allowed one false start throughout the entire competition. Youth participants will have a modified speed wall route to accommodate their height, and this mini-speed wall route will be open for practice before the event. Rankings will be determined by the fastest time achieved out of the four attempts.
