22nd October 2022

An Olympic-style triple pumpfest

Roped Climbing x Bouldering x Speed Climbing

Rumble 2022 is a triple pumpfest competition combining Rope climbing (lead or top rope), Bouldering and Speed climbing.

The event will be held on Saturday 22nd October 2022. Competitors will have 2 to 3 hrs (based on their category) to complete all three disciplines. The schedule for the day will be advertised closer to the date.

All categories will have a Rumble champion and individual winners in each discipline.

The rules

Rumble

The final standings at the end of the event will be determined by a multiplied score of competitors' placements in all three disciplines — with the lowest score earning the gold medal. The same system as at Tokyo Olympics 2020/21.

For example, if a competitor placed 2nd in bouldering, 3rd in lead and 10th in bouldering, their combined score would be 60.

Bouldering

Each category will have eight boulders to complete. The boulders will be set in traditional style with one zone and the top. Rankings in each category will be based on;

  1. The most Tops
  2. The most Zones
  3. The least Attempts to the Tops
  4. The least Attempts to the Zones

Lead/top-rope

There will be six routes in each category climbed in flash style; therefore, climbers will have one attempt per route. Competitors will either reach the top (top) or gain points based on the highest part of the climb (high point). Scoring will be based on:

  1. the most Tops
  2. the highest score (points) accumulated on routes that were not topped

Belaying Requirements

  • ALL top rope belayers must have completed Urban Jungle's Top Rope Induction.
  • ALL lead climbers and belayers will need to hold an Urban Jungle Lead Pass.
  • These must be obtained before the event by visiting our facility.

Speed

Every climber will have four tries, two on each line, on the speed wall! Competitors will be allowed one false start (FS) throughout the competition.

The route for the Youth category will be modified to accommodate competitors' height. This mini-speed wall route will also be up for everyone to practice before the event.

Ranking will be based on competitors' fasted time out of four.
